Do Thai women only care about money?

Here is an interesting question that I was asked recently: Do Thai women only care about money? I’m sure that this is a sensitive topic for men involved with Thai ladies and even Thai ladies themselves. Of course, there is no single answer to this question and I am careful to avoid making sweeping generalizations with this answer. Instead I have provided some tips and pointers on assessing your partner’s financial situation which can help you to answer this question yourself and understand whether their motive for a relationship with you is purely monetary.
All women are different
Many Westerners have married educated Thai women with university degrees and solid careers. For the most part, a good education is needed in Thailand in order to secure a decent, livable wage and a long term career. If your partner is financially stable and able to support herself without you then it’s less likely she is only interested in your money.
By contrast, if you met your girlfriend in a beer bar, a go-go bar, massage parlor, night club or somewhere similar where she earns around the Thai minimum wage then you are on far shakier ground. If the lady has learned to speak English in a beer bar (or a similar place), for the sole purpose of interacting with customers and likely with the goal of gaining a foreign boyfriend; then suffice it to say that the lady might be more financially driven into the relationship.
Ask yourself: Did your partner learn to speak English at school? Or was she driven to pick up the language in order to earn more money?
Examine her circumstances
When you’re examining the financial circumstances of your Thai girlfriend, it’s important to take a long hard look at the lady’s situation in order to understand her finances.
Generally in Thai culture the daughter of the family is responsible for supporting her parents. Of course, if the lady was born into a wealthy family then this won’t be as true compared with women that are from poorer rural farming communities. If her parents are not wealthy, then ask yourself if she has any sisters that might also be able to help support them. Is she their only daughter? Do her parents have any means of income? Are they even upholding this generalization and asking for support from their daughter?
Critically, you need to find out if she has any children. Raising kids isn’t cheap in any part of the world and this will be another mouth for her (and ultimately you) to feed.
Asking key questions early on in a relationship can help to build up a picture of the lady’s financial circumstances, and ultimately if she is likely to end up relying on you for help with money.
It’s also common for us to hear stories about women (or their parents) that have significant debt. It’s unlikely that your girlfriend will be upfront about being responsible for large debt repayments early on in the relationship. Ask yourself: Is her property (or her family’s property) in a good state of repair? Is it a nice home or a glorified cow shed? Did her family have enough money to pay for this property and the land that it sits on, or have they yet to pay for it?
Another question to ask your Thai girlfriend early on in the relationship would be how much money she expects as a dowry (or sin sod) payment... If she demands a huge amount of cash to get married then you should start to question her motives.
Be realistic
I have spoken with many foreign guys that are simply not realistic about the situation with their girlfriends. For example, many guys are in relationships with bar girls and refuse to send their girlfriend any money. The lady has children to support and earns less than 10,000 THB per month. Well, it’s highly likely that under these circumstances that the woman will leave the bar with customers in order to earn enough money to support herself and her family. Being in denial about this isn’t going to help either of you. If the numbers don't add up then something has to give.
Take a look at your partner’s financial state and consider whether or not she is capable of supporting herself or whether she will be relying on your contributions to help out. This is ultimately how you can figure out whether your Thai girlfriend only cares about money.

Are Thai women promiscuous? The truthful answer is that some are and some aren't; and the likelihood that your Thai girlfriend could be cheating on you will also vary depending on her circumstances and lifestyle... But what do the statistics say?
According to surveys conducted by condom manufacturer Durex and dating website Match.com, 56% of Thai respondents admitted to having an affair while being married. This statistic ranks Thailand amongst one of the most unfaithful nationalities out of the 36 countries surveyed, and could indicate that Thai women might be more promiscuous than other nationalities.
As a leading detective agency based in Thailand, we have dealt with numerous cases which involve Thai women that were suspected of cheating on their partners. For many of our clients there is an element of choosing to trust their gut instincts and hire a private detective to figure out what is really going on and get to the truth of the situation. Most of these individuals would never have found out that their partner was cheating on them had they not decided to start an investigation.
Indeed, if you are searching for information online relating to infidelity and Thai ladies, then this might be indicative of your own suspicions; and as the old saying goes, there is usually 'no smoke without fire'.
Will my Thai girlfriend cheat on me?
If you are a foreigner that is dating a Thai lady, then unless you can speak Thai you will likely be conversing with the lady in English. Most Thai women do not learn to speak English fluently as a result of studying at government schools, and so the story behind her ability to speak and understand English can be telling in many cases.
It is reported that around 27% of the Thai population can speak English. After we remove foreigners/expats, men, and children from this figure, we discover that the overall number of Thai females of dating age that can speak English to an acceptable standard is relatively low. Statistics which relate to all Thai people or all Thai ladies might not accurately represent this subset of the population.
If a lady has previously studied English at a higher education level, and attained relevant qualifications, then this could certainly be seen as a positive trait.
If on the other hand she learned to speak English through working with foreigners in a beer bar, or informally at a similar 'adult entertainment venue', then this is a whole different topic altogether.
Ladies that currently work (or previously worked) in beer bars are far more likely to commit acts of infidelity in our experience. Due to the nature of their work, bar girls often have dozens of different partners, as well as clients that pay to spend time with them on a nightly basis. Bar girls typically learn English for the sole purpose of being able to interact with clients and perhaps ultimately finding themselves a serious romantic relationship with an English speaking man.
Bar girls, and other women from Thailand's adult entertainment industry, with often look to forge serious romantic relationships by joining dating websites and apps. Of course, if they are joining a dating site/app with the goal of a serious romance then they will typically choose not to disclose their true profession to the men that they speak to online, for obvious reasons. You may think that it 'could never happen to you', many of our clients also believed this until being confronted with the results of an investigation.
Bar girls are also more likely to pull off the so-called Thai girlfriend scam, where a lady will have multiple different foreign boyfriends at the same time, who all believe that they are the only man in her life. When pulled of successfully, this scam can be used to generate vast amounts of money for the perpetrator; and if you don't know what to look for then it can be easy to find yourself getting fooled.
Thai girlfriend from internet dating
One of the wonders of the modern age is internet dating. Numerous different websites and apps can be used to connect beautiful Thai ladies with foreign men all over the world.
If you are speaking to a person from any country in the world that you have met through internet dating, then understanding their true situation without having ever met them in real life is going to be a difficult feat, and we would recommend meeting with them in real life as soon as possible.
Data which has been released by the United States Federal Trade Commission indicates that romance scams hit a record high in 2021, with a staggering $547 million reported lost by US consumers in that year alone, a reported 80% increase from 2020.
If you are internet dating an individual from any country in the world other than the one that you currently live in, then you should be very mindful of romance scams and try to avoid becoming the next victim. One golden rule that we would recommend is never sending money to a person that you have not met in real life.
